Happy Monday

17 Sep 2018

We should never get carried away with one weekend but at the same time its right to take pleasure from a weekend of work well done.

We made a conscious decision this season to promote our own talent rather simply recruit players. Having lost 10 players that decision was always going to put pressure on the depth and numbers with in our squads.

So after week three where does that leave us as a club? If we look at the beginning the conference (school/wasps) games whilst S1 and S2 lost to Peebles our u15s won our under 16s had a very big win and the u18s won 81-5

That indicates we continue to have some very good young rugby players coming through so congratulations and thank you to our Development officer and to all our Coaches, teachers and volunteers as your contribution enables our association with Earlston High School to work so well. Our Youth Rugby is in good order and whilst there are always issues for us to deal with the important factor is we continue as a club to head in one simple direction. Kids just want to play and enjoy themselves; we just provide the surroundings and the guidance for them to do it well. It’s a simple recipe and as said those working to it at the moment must be congratulated when it’s shown to work.

In the realms of senior rugby we headed off to Myreside to play a club and one of our future SUPER 6 opponents that has recruited some of the best talent in the club game. The Storm side still suffering the loss of injured players and the likes of Thomas Brown who returns from New Zealand this week appeared on paper to be going to have a tough afternoon. Going down 17-5 early doors didn’t help those on the side-lines. However and outstanding performance and attitude from all concerned drove them to a 30.24 win.

We can ask no more than for players to give 100 %  and they certainly did that so the club can take a great deal of satisfaction  from this result

As for the Prem squad it’s most certainly our best performance so far. A fantastic result that certainly left an impression on our opposite numbers. On the day they couldn’t match us. The boys had been very well prepared, they listened and they executed their game plan well. Again on the day we can ask for no more than that. Will it get tougher, absolutely it’s a huge month coming up, Accies will be shell shocked after their result and want to bounce back quickly. With some players in their ranks who perhaps felt undervalued with us they will I am sure make life as hard as they can  and we respect that. After that we have AYR away who are flying high then Stirling who have already had success over us this season. Then Heriots who seem to be the team everyone is talking about at the moment. Then Currie who have been impressive so far and are out to prove a point this season

Ayr play Heriots this week so that will be interesting as a win for us would mean only two teams on maximum wins, so it’s essential we  do our jobs this week and don’t have a dip at home .

It’s interesting that we play all the top sides away in this first half of the season , winning any of those games is huge so last week’s result  is a great boost for the job ahead in the coming weeks and  months. Will it get tougher yes, will there be gloomier Monday mornings, probably, So smile this Monday, we should take the weekend for what it was, a really good  one for the club. Bank it move on and do up the seat belt as it will get tougher.

 see you Saturday
