HERE WE GO AGAIN (1)

27 Aug 2017

The first weekend of the new season was a very busy and successful one. We hosted the Edinburgh game on Friday night and it was a pleasure to share a beer with Doddie Weir  who chose the occasion to launch  his Foundation . This giant of a man was in good fettle and i was humbled to listen to the  honesty and the openness of his personal battle with MND.

The Storm fielded a very young team against Hawick on Friday night  and recorded a fine 19-12 win. A number of the players were making there senior rugby debuts and the future of the club looks bright with some very good performances. Thomas Brown did very well as did Craig Fairbairn and young Mr Dobie. Rory Darge, 18 yrs old  who comes from North Berwick made his club debut and looked as looks as though he may have  a big future in the game. The Storm begin their season at home this week against Watsonians , so good luck boys

Our BT Charity Shield trip to Millbrae was both entertaining and encouraging. The boys continued where they left off last season with their attacking style of rugby and some outstanding individual performances and a great team spirit. Twelve of the twenty two players in the  match day squad  played Wasps Rugby . Gav Wood and "Goose" Runciman  had good afternoons , Ben Chalmers shared the 10 jersey with Jason Baggot and enjoyed his return to the black and yellow colours as did young Connell Howard. Neil Irvine Hess  was the man of the match. To score 44pts at Ayr despite missing half a dozen kicks at goal was a ggod start to the season. However this week will be very different as we face a team that will see themselves as a top four club. Having recruited well with new coaches in place they will relish their trip to the Greenyards, a high scoring game may well be on the cards.

We look forward to seeing you as we begin another season, with as ever high hopes but most certainly under no illusions-- it will be tough  and our first opponents  have their own ambition .

see you Saturday
