One for the History books

Well with only Walkerburn Sevens  to come I think we can get the BBQ's and golf clubs out. It's been a hell of a season and one we may never repeat. After a great Awards night last  Friday  to then win  Jed Sevens just summed these guys up. A squad of youngsters led by Craig Jackson and Bruce Colvine who are both insatiable for success were simply outstanding.

It was almost the perfect season with just the one slip up at Melrose Sevens when we were perhaps out witted by Watsonians on the day. But you can't win them all as they say but we learned from it and have performed very well against them in the remaining tournaments.   With 3  Sevens wins 2 runners up and 5 semi finals  from 10 Tournaments with all the fifteen commitments we had is some effort and a credit to the club and the depth of talent available to us. The Sevens continue to be a tremendous breeding ground for young talent, some clubs seem to have lost that realisation which is a shame. In our case we have at least 6 young players who have grown in confidence and should feel more ready for next season. Lukas Reid a month ago was playing for the Wasps he now has three Sevens winners medals. Mathew Klein and Adam Hall have shown they could have great futures if they continue to work hard  with Robert Chrystie. Gav Wood was outstanding at Jed and will be one to watch next season.

As from today we move on, we park last season to prepare for the next one. At the moment we know Bev has retired, Ross McCann and Nyle Godsmark have sevens Contracts as does Ally Miller. Jason Baggott and George Taylor begin their Edinburgh careers as 1st Year Pros.

To have so many players being given an opportunity at pro level is a great compliment to the club, it's our job to facilitate these young men and allow them to flourish, so we must be doing something right.

Enjoy the summer--training starts on the 4th July , no rest for the wicked
