ASTON LARK BECOME MAIN SPONSOR OF MELROSE BUSINESS CLUB
Melrose Rugby are delighted to announce that one of the new club sponsors this season, insurance broker Aston Lark Limited, has also become the sponsor of our new Melrose Business Club.
Having attended the first meeting on Wednesday 19 September, where there were presentations by Dr Susan Brown of Edinburgh Napier University and Katharine Mathison of Borders College, Business Development Unit on the topic of Academia and Business; Working Together which covered such issues as apprenticeships, dual career options and vocational training. Philip Grice, the local man on the ground for Aston Lark, persuaded his Scottish Director, Simon Blyth, that this was something that Aston Lark should be involved with and support.
Simon agreed and said: “After becoming the insurance broker for Melrose RFC, we saw an opportunity to increase our profile in the area. We’re proud to support Melrose Rugby Business Club as it’s an ideal opportunity to forge a close working relationship with local businesses.”
He added “It will be both a social and a commercial relationship, and we’re ready to immerse ourselves in the community alongside both businesses and individuals.”
David Peace, Commercial Manager of Melrose Rugby, is delighted that the business club has got off to such a great started, he said:
“We are delighted that the Melrose Business Club has begun so successfully and to have the initiative endorsed so early by sponsorship from Aston Lark, a major player in the insurance market, gives us a major boost. Aston Lark will have input into topics for future meetings and with their backing we anticipate the Business Club going from strength to strength as a social, informative and networking hub for business in the Scottish Borders and beyond.”
David continued: “The level of interest in our first meeting and the positive reception by both those who attended and by those who were unable to attend, has demonstrated that there was a gap in the market for an informal, friendly but informative entity for businesses in the Scottish Borders. With the support we have had from The Royal Bank of Scotland, Network Borders, The Borders Chamber of Commerce, Edinburgh Napier University and Borders College, we hit the ground running and are delighted with the feedback we have had.”
“We encourage attendees to approach each other on the basis of “what can I do for you?” and this ethos has struck a chord. As a rugby club we espouse the characteristics of our game namely, respect, comradeship, cooperation, honesty, communication, bravery and not being afraid of making mistakes but learning from them, and these are traits that apply wholeheartedly to business. The sport of rugby and business have a lot to offer each other and I’m sure we will cover this subject as the Business Club progresses.”
The next meeting of the Melrose Business Club will be on Wednesday 21 November at The Greenyards, Melrose, when the topic will be Funding: for Business and Beyond.
