Melrose Rugby’s Player of Year and BT Premiership Player of the Year, Craig Jackson, has been called up to the Scotland 7s squad ahead of the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco 21 and 22 July.
Jackson (pictured centre) joined up with the rest of the 12-man squad either this week as training intensified before flying out to the states. Jackson, who won his first Scotland 7s cap eight years ago as an 18-year-old, is excited to head out to the World Cup, he said: “When I was asked to train with the squad in the build up I never, in a million years, thought I would be heading to the World Cup.
He continued; ‘It comes off the back of a great season with Melrose. Now I just can’t wait to get out there and get stuck in!” Craig will have familiar faces around him as fellow Melrose player Sam Pecquer returns from injury and Nyle Godsmark retains his place in the squad. Jackson will also be made to feel at home as he was part of the last Melrose sevens squad to win Melrose 7s in 2011 playing alongside Scotland 7s Head Coach John Dalziel.
Congratulations to all those selected to represent Scotland at the Rugby World Cup Sevens!
