Provender Next Generation 7s 2018

02 Apr 2018

On Friday 13th April Melrose Rugby will host a 7s tournament for the next generation of rugby players, the day before the Aberdeen Standard Investment Melrose Sevens. Local eatery Provender have sponsored the event, that will take place on Battery Dyke pitch, and will supply delicious food for the players to refuel afterwards. The event is supported by Year of Young People 2018 and Scottish Borders Council.

Teams competing on the day include local sides from Melrose, Hawick and Kelso, as well as those from further afield such as Longridge Towers, Stewarts Melville Academy, Tynedale RFC, Ardrossan Academicals and Howe of Fife RFC. Entry to the event is free, with Live Borders bringing their famous inflatable for children to play on - after which they can then pop over to the Simply Delicious stall to grab an ice cream!

Melrose Youth Development Officer, Ciaran Hogg, is looking forward to the event coming together after months of preparation; “We’re really excited to be hosting the inaugural Provender Next Generation 7s on 13th April”.

He added; “There are teams competing at the Provender Next Generation 7s that our team would not normally come up against, so it will be good for them to challenge themselves against different opponents”.

“With local business from the town at the event and Live Borders bringing their inflatables, there will be something to keep the whole family entertained”

Following the Provender Next Generation 7s a Borders Select VX will play against the Crusaders XV at 5.30pm in a match to raise funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation - further information to follow.
