A Great Effort Rewarded
29 Jan 2017
I would like to thank everyone that made the effort to come down on Saturday morning to lift the covers off the pitch and allow the BT Cup 3rd round match to go ahead against Currie. We had volunteers from all age groups help out, and it was great to see some of the Storm and Wasps players getting stuck in to help out.
It was all made worthwhile by the Firsts taking us into the next round, scheduled for the 4th of March, and we shall let you know who our opposition is as soon as possible. The conditions started off well, but the underfoot conditions deteriorated in the second half, and consequently so did the rugby. There were a number of notable performances and contributions, with Calum Crookshanks stepping in at the last minute for Dan Elkington, Aaron Welsh and Thomas Klein scoring tries, Jason Baggott returning to play with assurance and Austin Lockington cutting holes in the Currie defence in the first half, before the footing began to be difficult. However the control offered at the line out led to James Head being nominated Melrose man of the match.
Our next match is in the BT Premiership against Heriots at Goldenacre and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our last home game of the regular season on the 18th of February against Hawick.
