Our guest speakers on Friday 19th April are Gordon Hunter and Iwan Tukalo who were members of the 1984 and 1990 Grand Slam winning Scotland squads respectively. They attended the same school and played rugby at Selkirk together. Gordon and Iwan will offer an insight into why these Scottish teams achieved Grand Slams where others have since fallen short.
Last month they also took part in the “ All Roads Lead to Rome” Doddie Foundation charity ride being part of the Cycling Souters team which left Selkirk on Sunday 3rd March arriving in Rome at lunchtime on Friday 8th March.
Iwan’s father was born in Ukraine and they will make a presentation on the work they have been doing to support the Breaking The Chains, a charity which is doing amazing work in the war torn front line. They made various trips to Ukraine in 2023. On one of these they were accompanied by Grand Slammers Finlay Clader and Colin Deans. So the Grand Slam connection continues.
