Glasgow Hawks v Melrose – 5/10/24

A trip to Balgray was undertaken for this Round 6 Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership match being played on a dull afternoon with an edge to the breeze and on a firm pitch. Four minutes into the match Will Owen completed a penalty lineout rolling maul scoring the opening try, in the left corner, with Keiran Clark adding the extras. On 21 minutes Hawks breeched the Melrose defence with several good passes before Seb. Hastings crossed in the left corner for a try well converted by Liam Brims from the touch-line. The Melrose riposte was immediate with Corey Goldsbrough breaking down the far side from the kick-off passing to Elliot Ruthven who darted into the left corner followed by another excellent Clark conversion, this time from the touch-line. Four minutes later Clark added a penalty to open up a 10-point lead. From a penalty lineout on the left, at 33 minutes, Campbell Waugh burst through to the posts for a try which Brims converted. The half ended with an unsuccessful Clark penalty attempt.

Half time – Glasgow Hawks 14 Melrose 17.

Six minutes into the second half Bruce Colvine broke and, after a series of plays, Will Ferrie dived into the right corner for a try which Clark converted. Seven minutes later Clark broke off-loading to debutant prop, Ben White, who needed no second invitation to dot down between the posts for the Melrose bonus point try with Clark converting. Mid-way through the half Euan Muirhead finished off a wonderful Hawks passing move the length of the pitch with a try on the left which Brims converted. The Hawks dander was now up and, with very few minutes until no-side, put in another fine passing move ending with Finlay Callaghan crossing in the left corner for the, unconverted, Hawks bonus point try, which ended the scoring.
