HOWDEN ANNOUNCED AS HEADLINE SPONSOR FOR 2025 MELROSE SEVENS

The Melrose Sevens team is delighted to announce Howden, the global insurance intermediary group, as the headline sponsor for the 2025 tournament.

This landmark partnership reinforces Howden's ongoing commitment to rugby at all levels, from grassroots to elite competition, and follows its partnership as a Principal Partner of The British & Irish Lions.

Howden announced as main sponsor for 2025 Melrose Sevens

Howden is a leading global insurance intermediary group with employee ownership at its heart. Founded in 1994, it provides insurance, reinsurance and underwriting services and solutions to clients ranging from private individuals to the largest multinational companies.

The Group operates in 55 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, the USA, Australia and New Zealand, employs 20,000 people and manages premiums totaling USD 42 billion on behalf of its clients.

The 2025 Howden Melrose Sevens will take place from 22nd to 25th May and the organising team have planned an action-packed weekend of world-class rugby and festivities. Building on last year's success, which saw nearly 12,000 participants - including players, volunteers, spectators, and staff - the tournament aims to continue its growth with Howden's support.

In 2024, the Melrose Sevens generated an impressive £2.5 million economic boost for the Borders region, demonstrating its significance both locally and within the wider rugby community.

..THIS PARTNERSHIP IS A PERFECT MATCH, GIVEN HOWDEN’S ROLE AS A PRINCIPAL PARTNER OF THE BRITISH & IRISH LIONS... AS A CLUB, WE HAVE A PROUD HISTORY OF PRODUCING NOTABLE LIONS PLAYERS...

Phil Morris, Melrose Sevens Tournament Director, said: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome Howden as the headline sponsor of the Howden Melrose Sevens. Their dedication to rugby, from grassroots all the way to the pinnacle of The British & Irish Lions, aligns perfectly with our vision for the Melrose Sevens and with Howden's support, we're excited to build on our tournament's great foundations, especially in expanding the women's and Under 18 sevens events."

This partnership is a perfect match, given Howden's role as a Principal Partner of The British & Irish Lions. As a club, we have a proud history of producing notable Lions players, including Craig Chalmers, Doddie Weir OBE, Peter Wright, Frank Laidlaw, and legendary Lions coach Jim Telfer. A Melrose RFC stalwart with 21 caps for Scotland, Telfer famously led the Lions to New Zealand in 1983 and served as assistant coach for the victorious 1997 tour to South Africa, where his now-infamous 'Everest' team talk became part of rugby folklore.
