Melrose Rugby Bulletin 1/5/24

Hope everyone is having a good week? There’s been lots of rugby happening over the last few days!  We had guest team Vale of Lune from Kirkby Lonsdale here on Saturday playing our U15s. The afternoon continued with The Southern Knights taking on Boroughmuir – a really good performance from the Knights to take the win - final score was 34-17 with Allan Ferrie named man of the match. CLICK HERE to read the match report.

The Knights are at home again this weekend when they take on Watsonians, kick off is at 5pm after the Crichton Cup.

The 7s team had a good run at Langholm on Saturday – unfortunately we were beaten in the final by Gala – final score 26 -12. CLICK HERE for full results.

We are currently 3rd in the King of the 7s after 6 tournaments with 4 more to play, we could still retain the cup! This weekend we head to Kelso & Earlston:

Kelso – Saturday May 4th

Earlston – Sunday May 5th

Selkirk – Saturday May 11th

Jed-Forest – Saturday May18th

U13s win at The South School 7s

It was a big day for our U13s on Saturday 20th April, as they came home the victors on The South School 7s!

The victorious U13s

They beat Eyemouth High School, Kelso High School and Peebles High School on their way to winning the trophy. The team only conceded one try the entire morning, in the last play of the final! Big congratulations to all of you and a massive THANK YOU to their coaches for all the time they’ve put in this season!

The squad was:

Jingyong Gulvin, Cobey Burne, Finlay Brown, Josh Burne, William Campbell. Innes Stoddart Shannly, Oliver Robbie, Rory Wight, Seth McDougal, Daragh McLaughlin, Thomas Redmayne, Philip Oleson

Crichton Cup

The big day is almost upon us….Crichton Cup 2024 is happening this Saturday, 4th May – who will win??? Local rivalry at its finest!! If you have a bit of time and would like to help out the volunteers organising the day, please get in touch with Charlotte Midford via Teamo – many hands make light work & I’m sure there will be slots available to help with the BBQ & tuck shop!

Some sad news…

We were greatly saddened to hear of the passing last week of Vivien Chisholm. Vivien was a great supporter of the club, always happy to roll up her sleeves and get a job done, she was an integral part of the original supporter’s club who introduced the ‘200 Club’ back in 1977 as a way to raise funds for the club. We’ve been supplied with a wonderful photo of the ladies of the club back in 1977(we think) featuring Vivien and many other well-known ladies of the club. Thanks to Gordon Chisholm for sending it in.

Vivien’s funeral will take place on Tuesday May 7th at 12:30pm at Melrose Parish Church.

That’s all for this week,

Fingers crossed for a warm sunny day on Saturday & good luck to all those playing in 7s, Crichtons and the Knights match!

Warm wishes

Hilary

PS The Office will be closed this coming Monday but we'll be back in on Tuesday!
