Melrose Rugby Bulletin 20/11/24

Afternoon All,

Hope you’re keeping warm – it’s pretty chilly out there – very cold for the boys training last night that’s for sure!

We didn’t have heaps of rugby last weekend, with no senior matches at all, so it was up to the junior section of the club to provide the entertainment!

The U18 Wasps had a narrow loss against Morpeth, the U16 Wasps, a slightly less narrow loss against Selkirk!

The U15, U14 & U13s were all at Edinburgh Academy, no wins but fairly encouraging play.

Although it was all quiet on the rugby front, the clubhouse was put to good use with the Quiz & Curry Night on Friday – a huge thank you to Quiz Master John Sharp and also to chefs Ally Leach & Stevie Holisz for creating the delicious curries!

With the cancellation of Saturday’s match against Peebles, we feared there might not be such a big turnout for The Shambles on Saturday night, BUT their loyal fans did not let them down! And the 1877 was fairly jumping on Saturday night!

After mini’s training on Sunday, we welcomed Scotland Junior Rugby League to train at the club – they used the club house and outside pitches for a training session – lots of Yorkshire accents for a Scotland  group!!

Please see below for this week’s games

ALL MATCHES ARE NOW OFF

Please note that the U16 game against Kelso tonight is postponed due to weather.

Coming up…

The 1XV’s next home game (and final one of the year) is on December the 7th when we welcome Currie to the Club. We’ve had confirmation that this will be a double header, the Storm will take on Currie 2nd’s at 1pm with the 1XV taking to the pitch at 3pm. As we’re creeping towards Christmas, we’re declaring the 7th of December ‘Christmas Jumper Day’! So, look out your most sparkly jumper and put it on!

After the match we’re delighted to invite all our concession members to head to Ned Haig for a Christmas Afternoon Tea! Staff & board members are dusting off their best recipes ready to feed you!

We’ve got lots of other plans brewing which we’ll let you know about next week!

Fancy a sauna?

We’re excited to announce that Cedar Hus and their mobile sauna are coming to the Greenyards from Thursday, 28th November! 🧖🏽🧖🏻

Beyla, the sauna, will be positioned at the far side of the pitch beside the park, offering stunning views of the Eildons, with easy access to parking on St Mary’s Road. For those looking to take their recovery to the next level, a cold water plunge will also be available for contrast therapy. 🧊

🏉 Don’t miss the chance to watch the Melrose v Currie Chieftains game on Saturday 7th from the comfort of the sauna — book the hottest ticket in town!

While at the Greenyards, Cedar Hus are offering HIIT to HOT classes and a 5k guided run on match day, followed by sauna.

Cedar Hus have also kindly offered us a discount code for all 45 minute and 60 minute social sessions. Use code “Sport20” upon checkout for a 20% off your sauna.

And Finally…

MASSIVE congratulations go out to volunteer coach Kev Brown, we’ve just heard that Kev has been awarded The Eric Liddle Foundation Award for the East Region for his dedication to rugby development. Kev teaches at Kelso High School but is a huge part of the Melrose Rugby family, whether coaching, volunteering behind the bar and even doing the laundry! We’re delighted that his dedication has been recognised on a national level! 👏👏👏

If you missed last week's members forum re The Greenyards Foundation & proposals for the future of the Greenyards, you've got another chance to hear about it tonight from 7pm - come on down and be a part of the conversation! Ned Haig Bar 7pm.

That's it for this week -

Best wishes

Hilary
