Melrose Rugby Bulletin 20/12/24
Evening Folks,
Hope you’ve all had a good week and are all ready for Christmas! We do have some rugby this weekend – the U18 Wasps are at home to Alnwick at the Greenyards on Saturday kicking off at 2:30pm – they’ve had a good season so far, so it should be a good game!
Last weekend’s results…possibly not the best weekend for scores, but some good rugby nonetheless! Most of the club headed up to Myreside with the younger teams playing their age groups from Watsons – no wins but a great morning. Unfortunately, the storm didn’t get a game, but the firsts kicked off the inaugural Breadalbane Finance Cup against Watsonians at 3pm – at half time we were trailing 12-0, things got a bit better in the second half with a try each for Corey & Declan and a final score of 24-10. To read Iain’s match report, please CLICK HERE . Corey was named to the Offside Line’s ‘Dream Team’ of the week for the second time in a row – Congrats to him! To read the article CLICK HERE. A big THANK YOU to Andy Mclean who was on hand to take some great photos – head to Facebook to see Saturday’s albums – CLICK FOR PHOTOS .
Although none of our teams were playing at home on Saturday, there was plenty of action at the club. The Australian Raptors Rugby Academy took on the Border Reivers U16’s at the Greenyards – a nice win for the home side, and a great experience for players and supporters! Douglas Hardie was on hand with the camera, so head over to Facebook to see some photos – many thanks for doing that Douglas!

🟡⚫️6 Nations' Prediction Cards 2025🟡⚫️
Our annual youth fundraiser is back!!
Each age group should now have received your envelopes with prediction cards and information letter (if not, check in with your lead coach) so they can be distributed to kids / parents / coaches etc.) before Christmas.
Put simply, the more cards we sell, the more money we'll have to buy new kit so please make every effort to push these to your age group and get each player / coach / parent etc. to sell their initial allocation of 10 prediction cards or ask them to make the equivalent donation to the same value as any unsold cards (if you are able to). Any unsold cards should be offered to other members of your age group / other age groups / members or failing which returned to the office so we can offer them for sale.
There are a few spare envelopes in the 1877 Bar and Ned Haig for those that require them.
Thank you in advance for your support 🐝

And finally....
The senior players had their Christmas Dinner last night - Ally Leach produced a meal the most amazing meal for them all, I don't think there was a partridge in a pear tree, but there was everything else! One player came into the office just now saying he was still full from last night! Thanks Ally - I think that meal has gone down in club history!
On that note, it just remains for me to say thanks so much to everyone who make things happen here at the club - especially our volunteers who put so much in. That includes the board, the 7s group, coaches, the grounds group, the Cool Chefs, the events group, the players, the mums who help with food and everyone else who makes up our great community.
Warm wishes & Merry Christmas from all of us at the Greenyards -
We look forward to seeing you on Boxing Day!
Hilary & Doug
PS The office will be closed from Monday 23rd until Monday 6th January
