Melrose Rugby Bulletin 9/1/25
Evening Folks!
Happy New Year to all and very best wishes for a great 2025! I hope everyone had a great Festive Season and it wasn’t too much of a struggle to get back to normal! We’re all back in the office ready for some rugby! Talking of rugby – Boxing Day….we retained the Waverely Cup with a 21-14 win – Congratulations to the boys – an excellent effort. CLICK HERE to read Iain’s match report & view Andy Mclean’s photos! It was great to see so many of you down at Netherdale, over 2000 in attendance apparently! We had a great turn out at the club after the match, thanks to the bar staff & the Jokuleles for getting the party going!
The IXV are due to play Musselburgh on Saturday at home, kicking off at 3pm – unfortunately the weather is looking VERY cold over the upcoming days, the pitch is currently frozen solid and it’s not due to warm before Saturday. So after discussions with Musselburgh, both teams have agreed to postpone the match. We’ll fill you in on the new date as soon as it’s been issued.
Unfortunately the club junior games have also been postponed this weekend, it’s just to cold for them out there.
Bon Voyage to Sam, Welcome Monroe!
We said ‘ Adios & safe travels’ to Sam Derrick yesterday as he heads off to South America for a few months, Sam delivered coaching to schools as part of our community coaching team as well as being a Knight and 1st team player. In his place, we’re delighted to welcome former Southern Knights player, Monroe Job to the staff in Sam’s absence. Monroe will be responsible for the delivery of our Primary School Programme and our School of Rugby Programme at Earlston high School. As well as playing for the Knights, Monroe has played most of his junior & senior rugby at Selkirk, he’s also played age grade rugby for Scotland with highlight’s being a couple of stints playing in South Africa & Kenya. Monroe is currently coming back from injury. Like Sam, he’s got a great personality & will be a first-class addition to the Greenyards.
Appeal for a TV!!
The club are looking for a TV that we can wall mount in the Eildon Suite! If you have recently upgraded but have a fairly large TV floating around that you don’t have a need for, please do let us know - we might be able to re-home it for you!!
Found Jacket & Keys…
We had a Jack Wills jacket handed in last night – it had been left pitch side, size XL with a set of keys in the pocket. Please get in touch if you know who it belongs to.
Six Nations Prediction Cards –
Just a wee reminder to get selling your six nations prediction cards – the deadline to hand them back in is 5pm on Friday 31st January. We urge you to sell as many as possible as it’s a great fund raiser for the club and could see you win a nice cash prize!!
Supporters Tiles –
You might remember that just before Christmas we re-launched the Supporter Tile initiative, so why not help support our club, while also immortalising yourself or family & friends with a spot on the Supporters Wall at the Greenyards! It would be great to see the wall full of new tiles in 2025
The tile can be personalised with a maximum of 3 lines and 14 characters per line.
Tiles are priced at £100

And finally…
A big thank you to the mystery person who sent a lovely box of Hotel Chocolate chocolates to the office before Christmas! They came from Amazon but there was no indication of who sent them! They have been enjoyed by everyone in the office! EDIT: We’ve now discovered who our generous chocolate benefactor is! Thank you Graham!
Warm regards on a chilly night!
