Melrose Rugby Bulletin 20/3/25
Afternoon Folks!
We had a very exciting/stressful game (stressful for the supporters anyway) against Edinburgh Accies at Raeburn Place on Saturday. It was a glorious day, but not a glorious start! The score was 14-0 to Accies after the first 5 minutes, but the boys pulled it out the hat and came away with a 38-35 win!

It's been a very busy morning at the club today, we've had visitors from Ayr, Suffolk, South Africa & Australia! Luckily Ian Cooper (the man with encyclopaedic knowledge of the club) was in today and has been kept very busy showing our guests around!) Our Australian guest was Julian Sanderson, Julian is the great grandson of David Sanderson who was part of the first sports committee for the 7s along with Ned Haig. David owned the Butcher shop where Ned worked & he was also part of the Melrose 7 that first year, in fact he scored the only try in the final - so the winning try!! Julian & Ian had a great chat, and both learned more about David Sanderson! Pictured below are Ian Cooper & Julian Sanderson
We mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the U18s are heading to Rosslyn Park 7s - they board the mini bus on Sunday and head South! They've done really well on their fundraising and spent Saturday summitting the Eildons multiple times to the height of Everest! The boys would like to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who has donated and help them raise the funds! An amazing amount of generosity out there!!
Touring Teams
You might have noticed lots of cheering coming from the Greenyards in the last week - we've had some great touring teams visiting us lately. Last week we hosted the St. Paul Jazz Pigs for a couple of nights and the Storm played them under the lights on Tuesday. They thoroughly enjoyed their time at the club, thanks to Fiona & Ally for doing a huge player dinner on Tuesday night - it went down a storm! Then on Wednesday we hosted a 'Scottish' dinner to mark their 50th anniversary - a first try off haggis for lots of them! Michael Crawford addressed the haggis in his own inimitable style - brilliant stuff! Thanks to everyone who made the Pigs so welcome around town.
This week we've been hosting the Rapids Girls Rugby from the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, Canada. They are touring the North of England and Scotland. On Monday they had a training session with Rob Moffat & Doug Crawford which they really enjoyed, then last night they took on the Borders Girls U18's and came out on top. Our Queen Bees were delighted to form the honour guard and take on the task of ball crew! A big thank you to them! Again, our Cool Chefs were on hand to supply post match food, thanks to Ally, Fiona & Sue!
And Finally...
