This week’s Rugby
The 1XV have the weekend off after 3 out of 4 weeks of travelling to the West! Next game for them is Nov 9th against Edinburgh Accies
The Storm head to Gala to take on the Reivers, kick off is Saturday at 3pm.
The Greenyards will see action from the U15 Wasps on Saturday morning at 10am as they take on Edinburgh Quinns. Then the U18’s take to the pitch against West of Scotland at 2pm - I’m sure they’d welcome your support – it’s their 3rd game in a week, and the first at home!
The U16’s head North East on Sunday to take on Dundee – they kick off at 2pm – the weather is looking pretty good in Dundee on Sunday – so could make a pleasant day out!!
Youth News
The U14s got an emphatic win away to Gala last Saturday, leaving them currently unbeaten in both the Borders Conference and in friendlies. Recent victories have included Independent Schools Loretto and Worksop College. The boys have a big couple of weeks coming up with Peebles HS (H) on 9th Nov and Edinburgh Academy (A) on 16th Nov. We would love as much support for our fixture against a strong Peebles HS team, so look out for details soon and get along if you can!!
Saturday 9th November : Ex-Players & Supporters Day
Our next home game is on the 9th November when we take on Edinburgh Accies – the lunch is now sold out but there will be plenty of fun after the match! We’re celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1XV touring British Columbia. So, there will be a 🍁Canadian🍁 theme to the day! Post-game it’s ‘Melrose Stampede’ time, not quite Calgary but you get the idea – it’s Rodeo day in the main hall - entry is free!
The country music will be in full swing and we’ve got Bill the Bucking Bull coming along, so grab your cowboy hats & plaid shirts and get down to the Greenyards - there might even be a prize for the person that stays on the longest! We're on the lookout for someone to sponsor Bill the Bucking Bull - so if you'd like to help out, please get in touch with Doug: generalmanager@melroserugby.org 🐮🤠
Seeing as it’ll be a month since our last home game, it’s definitely not an event you want to miss!
The fun continues on Friday 15th November with Curry & Quiz night at the Club – it’s £15 per person (including curry & quiz entry) and there is a maximum of 6 people per team. Tickets are available on the website by CLICKING HERE.
Saturday 16th see’s us welcome Peebles to the Greenyards in our Border League fixture. We’ll have live music from The Shambles (featuring player Sam Derrick) after the game!

We do have to reach a minimum order and we’ve got quite a tight order schedule if we want to receive the ties by Christmas – they cost £20 and are very smart! Please place your orders ASAP, We plan to close the book on November 11th to meet the delivery.
Sad news…Ken Macaulay
All at Melrose Rugby were shocked & incredibly sad to hear the news about Ken Macaulay on Sunday. Ken had just completed a massive fundraising journey, cycling over a thousand miles to all the clubs he’d played at. He came through the Greenyards on Saturday before ending his trip at Netherdale. Sadly, Ken passed away on Sunday morning. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Ken’s family & friends.
Thanks to Alison Robertson for the photo.
Until next time –
Warm wishes
Hilary
